Week 101: Returning Home

Image
Hey everyone! I got home exactly a week ago, but I still wanted to send this last email, even if it is very late. On Monday after we left the house of Hermano Diaz we went straight to the offices for my final interview. It was great, and I left with more confidence about the future and I could really feel the love that President Hiatt, and the Lord, have for me. On Tuesday we planned to go to Vista Alegre to visit Elder Bardales and Elder Allen. We were unable to have an exchange with them this transfer because of how early us returned missionaries have to go and because they've both been sick. First we visited hermano James and I was able to say goodbye to him. We then got a taxi to Vista Alegre, which normally would take about 12 minutes. This time, it took us just 30 minutes to leave our area. The traffic was crazy! The city had closed down so many main roads on the same day to prepare them for the rainstorms that'll be coming so they had to make detours. The traffic was ...

Week 100: The Imperfect Harvest

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great week! On Monday after pday we had our new missionary training and did some contacts. On Tuesday we planned to have a lesson in the afternoon with hermano James to prepare him for his baptism on Saturday. He finally had finished his exams so we thought he's have more time, but he told us right then that now he's working from 2pm to 11pm everyday. We quickly tried to work out a call lesson that day but it didn't work out. We had exchanges with Central 2 and I stayed in Chan Chan with Elder Jensen and Elder Salas went there with Elder Estebes. When I was in Central 18 months we taught a kid named Paulo who ended up not getting baptized. The Elders have but him on date again, this time for January so we'll see what happens. Elder Johnsen has great Spanish for just 3 months in the mission and I loved his enthusiasm. Pretty much all of our lessons fell but he stayed positive and we still had a great day! On Wednesday we finished our...

Week 99: Renacimiento Espiritual

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great week! On Monday after pday we had our new missionary training and then brainstormed about what we should do for our progressing friends. We then visited hermano Jose briefly and talked to him about his commitment to come to church and baptism. On Tuesday we had exchanges with Los Cedros 1. I went to Los Cedros with Elder Espinoza. The bishop asked us to visit a recent convert and give her a blessing of comfort. There was a little confusion with the timing and communication so the lady was a little upset with us. I told Elder Espinoza and the member we were with that were just going to apologize without trying to defend ourselves, even though we had many reasons to do so. It worked and she quickly forgave us. She had a strong dip in her depression that morning so we gave her a blessing and then I used my sympathy for people with depression to talk with her. We watched Elder Holland's talk, "Like a Broken Vessel," together. I thi...

Week 98: Preparing the Future Generation

Hello everyone! I hope you've all had a great week! On Monday after pday we did our training for the new missionaries and had a small lesson with Lilia. After that we did a contact with Mirian and Angel. We decided to push back Mirian's baptismal date a week so she could get baptized with her son if he comes to church this week. That night we got a call from Elder Castillo saying that we were going to the temple the next day! Of course I had put my suit pants in the wash the day before so I was going to have to use my tan pants -_- On Tuesday we woke up at normal time even though our session started at 8. We literally wolfed down our breakfast and raced over. The session was great and I had some personal revelation! We visited the distribution center and took photos as a district! After that we had intercambios with Buenos Aires 2. I went there with Elder Moss and Elder Hadfield went to Chan Chan with Elder Salas. We had a lesson with a lady who wasn't understanding anyth...
