Week 42: Who's Got Time for Sunscreen?

Image
Hola! Como esta? This was a good week and I hope it was the same for you! Let me know how you're doing! Tuesday morning we went to the stake president's house to do some service for him with other elders from the zone. Some chipped the paint away on his wall while my comp and I went to the roof to clean dirt off. I knew I should've put sunscreen on, but I thought I was stronger than I was. So I got fried. Cleaning the roof was a hassle because it took us a few tries to figure out what was the most effective. At first we tried throwing water onto it with a bucket and then scrubbing with brooms, but that didn't do anything. We then kept the hose continuously running and that worked better, but it practically flooded the roof and the roof was uneven so it created pools. Elder Kennedy and I later had to sweep to the drainage pipe. We eventually found out the rags with running water worked best, but we had two of us up on the same rickety ladder at the same time so we call...

Week 41: Cuy and Baptisms

T his was a great week! We saw lots of miracles and 3 baptisms! Wow I only got in 2 personal studies this week.   We ended up doing things most mornings so I wasn't able to get it in. I usually feel horrible when I don't because I lack the spiritual boost I need for the day. On Tuesday we had pday so this week was a little shorter. On Wednesday we went to the stake center to take our language exams and receive new phones! We still only have one, but it's new and doesn't have cracks or ghost touches like our old one did. But this morning took a whole lot longer than it should have since we were there till 1 in the afternoon. But it was really fun to tslk with the other elderes y hermanas for a few hours and play the piano.   Elder Rios and Elder Castillo came up to give us the phones and it turns out Elder Castillo us actually insane at the piano. People need to stop asking me to play because I know that everyobe else thinks I'm better than I actually am. After we g...

Week 40: Huaca del Sol

Well this was quite the week. Once again with its ups and downs. On Monday we had a noche de hogar with the family Tufinio, whose daughter is friends with hermana Maylin, who accepted baptism last week, but we still need her parent's approval. We taught the plan of salvation and had some tamales and bread. Later in the week we learned from her friend that her father said no, took her phone away, and prevented her from going to church. Why? Well, the reason we heard was because he thinks the reason she was going to church was to see a boy. Maybe Jesus. But that was super upsetting. We're going to try to talk with her dad this week and even invite him to see for himself what his daughter is doing in the church. We could definitely use the prayers this week! Well we got threatened twice this week. I saw a piece of paper slide under our door on Monday. It read, "Vete de acá. Vete de acá. 2nd piso," which means 'leave here' in a forceful way. Maybe our neighbors do...

Week 39: Why Baptism?

Image
¡Hola todos! I hope you're doing well. This week had its ups and downs but overall we had some successes! On Tuesday I convinced my companion to go up with me to a part of the area I haven't been to. It's the part on the mountain, up a bunch of steep hills. Elder Cabrera never wanted to go up there because it was "dangerous." I think it's just because he didn't want to walk up the hill. Even though I was senior comp we didn't go up, but this time we did it. Peligroso mi poto. We joined a funeral procession to walk up since our apartment is right next to the cemetery and there was no way to get around it. I even started singíng the song they were singing. Maybe we should put a flyer about the plan of salvation next to the gate.  We eventually escaped the procession and made our way to the top. It was cool to finally see the city from the top of my area and to visit a part and people I hadn't seen yet. It's a lot poorer but so cool. We'll b...

Week 38: Snorting Cake

General conference week! Woop woop! This week had it's ups and downs but I have a lot of hope for October. On Thursday we went on exchanges with Indoamerica again. This time I went with Elder Gerber in his area. He's not scared to go up the hills like all the latinos are, so I was excited to go up. It's hard to climb up but there's something about the por people that makes me want to go. The view is also amazing. We ended up running to the chapel for their comisión misional and a few random people starting cheering us on. There's this one crazy guy who's a member who just wanders around between the church buildings in the stake. As I was leaving our building from the exchanges this guy came up to me and tried to slap me. He was a little out of reach so he missed, but it made me jump into defense mode and jump out of the way. The next day he came up to me in the stake center all happy and greeted me with a handshake and a smile. I couldn't help but think, ...
