MTC Overtime: Week 15- I GOT MY VISA!!!

Image
This was a pretty eventful week! Many good things happened and I hope that good things happened to you too! On Sunday Elder Whitehead and I performed a special musical number during sacrament meeting. We also played it that evening during choir. I played the piano and Whitehead sang. The song was "Lord, I Would Follow Thee." It went pretty well and I even wrote a quick 4-measure interlude between the verses and did a little bit to spazz up the second verse. While our piece was being announced at the pulpit I was introduced as Hermana Jensen. I guess not enough elders play the piano so I was assumed to be a hermana! On Friday Morris came to help us call migrations to try and bug them into giving us our visas. We sat for two hours or so waiting for people to pick up our calls and then Morris just talked to them in Spanish. I didn't even get on a call because Morris seemed to figure all of ours out in a couple calls. I don't know if that event specifically did anything,...

MTC Overtime: Week 14- He Loves Us

Image
Hola! I hope you had a fantastic Easter week and felt the spirit in your life. I absolutely did with studying the final week of Christ's life in more depth than I ever have before. Other than Easter not much happened, but there were still some fun moments here and there. The teachers here have assigned us to teach fake lessons again, sometimes twice a day. Even though we aren't doing much it's still annoying to do these because all we want to do is teach real lessons and not worry about fake ones. Elder Tobler set up a real lesson over zoom with his friend Anni. We taught her about repentance and the Holy Ghost. It went really well, and I can say now that I've taught a real lesson! The current group of latinos we have is great. They're really funny. One of them, Elder Salazar, has trouble remembering names so everyone covers up their tag to see if he can remember it. He introduced himself to me about 8 different times and asked me what my mission is. He's fun ...

MTC Overtime: Week 13 - The Lost Zone

Image
This week sure was different. In total, 22 people left on Wednesday to go to their missions, 15 from my district and 7 from the older campo group. Both my companions left for their missions. Elder Haymond, who's in the Lima Central mission, was supposed to leave on Tuesday, but had to wait because there were major riots in Lima that resulted in the president issuing a lockdown for the day where everyone had to stay in their homes. He's a communist president who hasn't been keeping his promises, so the riots have been pretty huge. I've heard from some elders already out there that there's lots of broken glass in the streets and that one elder might have accidentally been tear gassed. I don't know if that last one's true, but I heard it from someone. All buildings were closed so the group leaving couldn't pick up their visas until Wednesday. Hopefully these things calm down so I can get mine and go to Trujillo, where I assume it'll be much nicer and ...

MTC Overtime: Week 12 - Missionary Miracle

Image
Well this was a very exciting week! We had conference, had a day trip to immigrations in Lima, and have some news on the visa situation. I hope you had a great weekend feeling the spirit during conference and found something that you can work on or apply into your life! I honestly can't remember what happened on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday last week, so I'll begin with Thursday. My entire zone, about 23 of us, loaded onto a bus and drove about an hour into Lima to go to immigrations to work on our visas. The fate of pretty much every missionary at the CCM depended on this appointment going well. If we wouldn't have made progress and gotten photos taken, it's very likely most people here would be reassigned. It's possibly the last group still could, but things are looking up. We all got our photos after waiting around for 4 or 5 hours. About 7 or 8 of us, not me, however, were called up saying they were going to go back to Lima on Friday to do the final part of t...
