Week 28: Sunny Sunday/First Baptism!

Image
What a crazy week! This week was all over the place, with some really great moments and some dissapointing moments as well. But all throughout I knew the Lord was working miracles and that He is watching out for me. To start off as soon as p day ended last Monday I got sick and felt some big chills. It didn't register as a fever on my thermometer so my companion forced me to come to the meeting with a ward member we had. Luckily that house had heating, (first time out of the CCM I've seen air conditioning), which helped reduce my chills. It's only 60 degrees outside but they had the heat all the way up. Some latinos don't even know what actual cold weather is. My comp wears a huge parka every night even though it usually only gets down to 55. "Tengo frio" he says, shivering. Meanwhile I walking around in a short sleeve shirt thinking, "Man he wouldn't like the US very much." Anyways of course the night I'm sick and I don't want to eat a...

Week 27: The Carrot Dream

¡Hola amigos! I hope you had a great week. My brother Will was set apart yesterday as a full time missionary for his mission in the Chile Santiago South mission. How crazy is that? Both of us are in South América at the same time! I said my first word in Spanish in a dream! The word was "zanahoria," which is "carrot." I don't now why it was a word I hadn't said since I memorized it, but it's progress I guess. I remember trying to think of the word in the dream and it finally came to me. We also bought some cake slices from a different bakery, (still one of the 5 we've pinpointed on our way to the chapel). I got one of a fruit that I can't remember the name of and we shared a slice of lemon cake that's probably the best lemon cake I've had. On Thursday we went to go paint the wall of a member's home. I had to climb up the sketchiest ladder I've ever used that would sometimes extend a little bit farther once you got to the top, so...

Week 26: 6 Meses! Que Rico

How are you doing? I had a pretty good week and a lot of stuff happened. As of yesterday I've officially been a missionary for 6 months! It's gone by in a breeze and I've met so many great people and my understanding of the scriptures and the gospel has increased exponentially. I encourage everyone who's thinking about serving a mission to do it! It is so rewarding and I've seen the Lord bless my life and the lives of others more times than I can count in these short 6 months. On Independence Day Elder Vilca and I got haircuts at a place called Cuba and were able to talk with the guy cutting our hair a little bit about the gospel. It didn't go anywhere, but it was nice practice. On the way over the air was really smokey because a pipe from a restaurant had caught fire. The fire department quickly came over and everyone around us were taking videos of it. I didn't get a photo of the fire, but I got one of the smoke from a distance. Afterwards we got some gr...

Week 25: Let Freedom Ring!

Happy fourth of July! I hope you had a fantastic week and were able to give thanks to God! Last pday we almost had a rerun of the time we got locked out of our apartment for 2 days. We went to the chapel to play sports with the other elders when I realized I didn't have the keys anymore. I looked around but couldn't find them. I thought they had probably slipped out of my pocket in the taxi we used to get over there. Luckily, inDriver allows you to call your previous driver! I called, and yes the keys were in his car. We had to wait a little bit, but we got them back and avoided a crisis. Saved again by technology! As we were walking down the street someone meowed at me on a bike. I did what anyone would do and meowed back. I'm surprised that guy didn't die when he looked back at me laughing considering how fast and all over the place he was riding in the middle of a busy street. Last week I said I was going to get fat from the bakery across the street we discovered, ...
