Week 20: All I Got Are The Clothes On My Back. Literally

Image
Well this was a crazy week for me! Full of things I didn't expect but just had to roll with. I hope you had a great week and felt God's love for you! On Monday night we finally moved into our actual apartment and no longer had to sleep with the ZLs, or as my comp Elder Palhua calle them, "payasos," which is "clowns." The apartment is pretty nice. It has a small balcony just big enough for me to exercise on and a soft computer chair to read on. We still have to use a bunk bed and I have to sleep on top because there's no ladder and my comp can't climb up. And there's a little jut out in the ceiling for some reason so I've hit my head on the ceiling a few times already. I have a nice space in a separate room for my clothes with some extra shelves. The showers are freezing, though, even if the bathrooms are nice. I finished "Jesus the Christ" and loved it. It made my respect and love for our Lord and Savior grow even more and I recom...

Week 19: Alien Eggs

This week was a bit rougher than the past few because of transfers. I had to say goodbye to Tahuantinsuyo and Elder Beizaga even though I was only there for three weeks, but I think my new area, Central, (downtown Trujillo), will still be great. On monday night Elder Beizaga and I along with Elder Compara and Elder Ronceros got some tres leche, which was 50% whipped cream on top. There was also a wedding going on just down the street so we got to listen to a live band all night. On Tuesday we got a ride to the mission home where I said bye to Elder Beizaga. I was introduced to my new companion, Elder Palhua. Both of us are new to the area and he's even quieter than me. We had to stay at the home for about 5 or 6 hours without anything to do because for some reason they couldn't get us into our apartment. I think they just lost the key or something. So I just explored the closet and finally fou d something in English, a copy of "Our Heritage: A Brief History of the Church...

Week 18: What Are You Doing to Pablo?!?!

¡Hola! I hope you had a fantastic week! This was a pretty fun week. Feel free to reach out if you have some missionary tips or questions for me! For some reason Tuesday was really cold. There's no air conditioning or heating in the house, so it's always just a little hotter or a little colder than it is outside. I had to put on a sweater and everything just felt cold. In contrast the water in the showers is boiling hot all the time, even though I was told I'd probably be taking cold showers. I'm not complaining about any of this, I'm happy to be living the mission experience. Elder Beizaga has an English copy of "Jesus the Christ" and this is probably the fasted I've read any book. I guess that's because I read it whenever I have a free moment. It's definitely opened my eyes up and has caused me to be in even more awe of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, just as Elder Ulisses Soares said we should in the last general conference. There's t...

Week 17: Gray Skies All The Time

Image
¡Hola! I hope you are doing well. I'm doing my best to adjust, although not understanding Spanish is making it a little hard. Hopefully I'll be able to get everything down soon. Thanks for all the prayers! I guess I spoke too soon about the third trio thing. Elder Richards is now an AP in training, so I'm just with Elder Beizaga now. He's nice and were getting along just fine. He cares a lot about the was he looks and will spend a lot of time looking in the mirror and has a meticilous face routine. He's great though and knows a bit of English. It's actually quite cold down here. I feel like wearing a jacket most of the day and the skies are always gray. It actually rained a couple times last week. It so weird being in the southern hemisphere where the seasons are flipped. I guess I'm glad now that I brought a bit too many long sleeve white shirts. Just a few weeks ago I though I wouldn't be needing them all that much. Pretty much every house has a mini ...

Week 16: First Week in the Field/Trio Number 3

Image
¡Hola! I got my visa last week and flow up to Trujillo last Tuesday! It's been a crazy week and I dount I'll be able to write about everything that happened! I woke up on Tuesday at 4:45 to get my bags READY. I left the CCM a little bit before 6 am with 7 latinos going to the Trujillo South mission. Our flight left at 9:30 and I tried to sleep the whole time. The flight was supposed to be online 55 minutes, but it took almost an hour monger because the plane just circled Trujillo for an hour for whatever reason. I was met by 2 latino elders whole too me to the mission home. We had sandwiches for lunch which satisfied me because I had no breakfast. I met President and Hermana Hinostroza and the elders who worked in the office. One is from California, Elder Ewell, who is at 22 months right now. I was then picked up by my first comps, Elder Richards from Alberta Canada and Elder Baizaga from Lima. It's weird to think that most people don't experience a trio on the mission...
