Week 63: Strollin' Through Huanchaco

Image
Hola amigos! I hope you all had a great week! I know I did! I forgot to mention that last week José got really close to biting me. He lunged a lot further than I thought he would and knicked my fingers, although it wasn't a full bite. Then it was sitting on the couch and hermana Ángela was sitting on the other side of it. She had José on her shoulder and we were talking with Cirilo and Maria, who had come over to visit. José was looking at me, and I knew exactly what he was thinking. He was planning on jumping and biting me, but couldn't commit himself or was waiting for the right moment. I picked up a pamphlet on the Gospel of Jesus Christ that was close to me just in case. Then out of nowhere he jumped off of her right at my hand, but luckily I used the pamphlet to protect myself and we all had a good laugh. Saved by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Nayeli is also progressing very well towards baptism. She has 6 or 7 attendances at church and goes to seminary everyday. We finall...

Week 62: Come On Barbie Let's Go Party

Image
Hey everyone! I hope you all had a great week! This was kind of just a week for me, but it still had it's moments. Right after pday we waited for a bus for 30 minutes at our usual bus stop. They normally don't take that long but the rain kind of threw it off, but eventually we got one. We had a small lesson with hermana Yessenia and Erick and their family. Their family is so funny since they have a bunch of young kids and now that I'm older I can see what my family's family home evenings must've looked like. I have more respect for my parents now. But I love their family and they're so funny and I love going over there. On Tuesday we had our first session of our emotional resilience class. It was 90 minutes long and a required thing we're doing. They separated us by language, so all the English speakers are together and we do it be zoom. We'll see how this goes. I was planning on doing exchanges with Jardines on Wednesday after district council but on ...

Week 61: It's Just a Little Rain

This was a little different of a week. Hope you all are doing well and staying safe! On Monday for pday last week we went to the mall to pull money and buy things. Afterwards we had our district activity in the mission home with Presidente and Hermana Hiatt. We made tacos and pizza and ate till we were stuffed and couldn't eat anymore. I tried to help in the kitchen but there wasn't very much for me to do because I had to be told because I literally didn't know what to do. Just goes to show the knowledge I lack about cooking and my inability in the kitchen. I'm more of a dish washer, and actually a pretty good one (ask my mom ) so I just sliced some peppers and listened to Elder Ampuero do his Ampuero thing and talk.  I also talked with president for a little bit with some of the other Elders. All the cabinets in the mission home are really weird. None of them have handles and you have to press them to open. Also we tried to get an electric oven to work but we couldn...

Week 60: Softening Hearts (With Rocks)

Image
Hola otra vez amigos! I hope you're doing well! Our water shut off both last Wednesday, this Wednesday, and yesterday. Always fun when that happens. We called hermano Juan and he fixed it all three times, even though I felt icky all those days. We also were able to soften the heart of someone this week! With a rock. There's this one vicious dog right next to our apartment who thinks we're there to steal everything he owns because he bares and gets really close to us whenever we pass. We pretended to pick up rocks and that scared him for a second but he always came back. Until one day Elder Larkin picked up an actual rock (it was tiny) and threw it at him. Now whenever we pass he jumps over the wall to hide from us. But when he does gain enough courage to come back again we just have to pretend to pick one up and that does the trick.  On Wednesday we had a noche misional that almost no one came to. It was just us, the mission leader, and the Elder's quorum president. W...
