Week 59: The Joy of Serving a Mission

Image
Hola todos! I hope you're all doing well! I had a pretty good week here in Huanchaco! As a quick overview I'll just say that we're teaching a lot of lessons with investigators so we haven't had as much time to find new people. But normally we end up having to travel in bus to get to a lot of lessons, because our area is huge and we have to go around the airport. I've gotten on some pretty crowded buses, and that's kind of sketchy with how unbalanced I am. I'm completely out of money now, (I have 1 sol), which isn't even enough to make it one way to the San Francisco residential area, so I'm hoping for a miracle this week, since we'll need to go there quite a bit. It's about 1.5 soles each way, so I'll have to find some money around because there are no ATMs in Huanchaco. We've been teaching a lot and focusing on our friends keeping commitments and at night I have to focus on DL stuff so I'm pretty exhausted at the end of each day...

Week 58: Spiritual Experiences and Darth Maul Duck?

We saw a lot of miracles this week! I hope you are all doing well and having a great time! The first miracle came on Monday, right after pday ended. We had a lesson planned with Fabricio, and his grandma had an ear infection so we went to give her a blessing too. While there we saw Fabricio's mom go up the stairs. For those who don't know Fabricio accepted baptism a few weeks ago and really wants to do it, (and he's also one of the most intelligent kids I've taught on the mission), but his mom didn't give her permision, on grounds that he's too young, not mature enough, etc. She also has a difficult schedule and is rarely in the house. Upon seeing her there, I know it was our chance. I invited Fabricio to invite her down to be present for the blessing. She came down and the blessing was powerful (She recovered very fast from it, she has a lot of faith). Afterwards we started to talk with his mom and the conversation got to the topic of Fabricio and baptism. She...

Week 57: Secretary For a Day

Como están? Estoy bien, gracias. I hope you're all doing well! On Tuesday and Wednesday we worked. Nothing more, but since the addresses here in Huanchacho are literally the worst, we practically have to organize and create our own ward member list. We have to search out all the blocks in person and then mark them on the map, but all the blocks naturally are confusing and randomly placed. So we'll see how the next few weeks go with that🤷‍♂️ On Thursday Elder Larkin had to go to interpol with the rest of the new Americans, as well as one Ecuadorian and an Argentine. I remember how much of a pain that was, so gladly it seems to have gone smoothly with them. I rode over with him but then went on exchanges with Elder Rios so he could do his daily tasks as secretary of health while Elder Solano handled the visa stuff. Elder Rios is the man, I want to be comps with him so badly. We rode back to the offices and I got a peak at what it's like to be an office elder. We ended up w...

Week 56: Trespassing?

Another week in the books! I don't really remember what happened this week but we'll see what I got. On Wednesday we had district council, which I centered in humility. We also discussed what we could do for our pday as a district outside of the zone we talked about going to President's house to cook food! I asked if we coukd do that to Hermana Hiatt and she said yes! I'm excited for that. After the district council Elder Goates came on exchanges with me in Huanchaco. He really likes the area and is honestly a little jealous of it. We worked hard and even got Fabricio to commit to baptism! Last week when we invited him he said not yet, but it's good to know he has a firm desire now. His grandfather, Julio, who's not together with his wife now, was there as well. We adjusted our lesson to fit both teaching him and Fabricio. I asked him to offer the pray and he started to cry while offering it, opening his heart up to repentance. Elder Goates used a long example...
