Week 81: Milagros en Intercambios

Image
Hola todos! I hope you all had a great week! Here's what I did. Monday night we found a few people. We found a guy named Linder who's missing both of his legs. On Tuesday we found a few new people, Gissela and Ruly. Gissela is pentecostal, bit they seem interested. We spent a while explaining authority and baptism. Later in the week we taught them the restoration. I hope they can progress but we'll see what we can do. On Wednesday after district council we went over to Chocope to start our exchange with Chiclín. We crashed the end of their district council and then I went over to Chiclín with Elder Larkin! Together again. The last time I went to Chiclín we spent the day in Chiclín, but this time we spent it all in Chicama (The area is 2 small towns) I don't know who planned out Chicama before they built it because it's not that wide but loooooong. It's very weird. During lunch we took a photo of us and sent it to Bryan, hermana Angela's grandson in Huancha...

Week 80: More Blessed Are Ye

Hey everyone! How was your week? On Tuesday we had a great lesson with hermano José Valera, an inactive member, about the sacrament. Later that day we met hermana Angelica, a PF who's been taught in the past. I hope she can progress. In the afternoon we helped the son of a member study for seminary and we had a quick lesson with Miguel because we bumped into him on the street.  On Wednesday we had district council and man Elder McCullough killed it! I wish I could say my first district council went like that. Afterwards I went on exchanges with Elder McCullough in Casagrande. We went out to a few lessons that fell and did some ward member list finding with hermano Brayan. That night we had a noche de hogar with a family and the girlfriend of the oldest son, who's not a member. We taught the restoration. After that they fed us a sandwich and more ecco, which I couldn't eat because I was feeling a little sick, and because Ai was tried of drinking echo since that's litera...

Week 79: Just a Little Faith

Hola todos! On Tuesday we had hermano Johan, a recent convert, come to us with a bunch of lessons. That night we had a lesson with Carlos and Suguey and their family about baptism that we had planned out very well. They still have some doubts, especially with Carlos being without work right now. We extended the invitation to be baptized but they said that they wanted to be certain and have more time thinking about it. That night we got transfer news and both Elder Cordova and I are staying in Independencia! All the other areas in the zone had changes though. On Wednesday we did some finding and had a lot of lessons, including another powerful lesson with our friend Kevin. He once again offered a great prayer that caused us to feel the spirit. We also were able to present ourselves to hermana Sandra, the mom of Pierina, the girl who came to church last week. In the street we talked with a woman named Victoria. We talked with her for a quite a while and but she started to look like...

Week 78: Giving My All

Image
Another week done, and 18 months in the books. On Tuesday we woke up with the signal gone so we couldn't make any calls or send any messages. This happens quite a bit here. It's kind of annoying though when you have an investigator who's anxiously waiting for a call.  Happy 4th of July! It's awesome that I get to spend Independence Day in Independencia.  (It's the name of my area) The best day of the year and even though I'm in Perú I made sure to sing some patriotic songs to annoy my comp.  "Mi na-ción es de ti, dulce país de li-ber-tad, de ti can-tooooooo," We had a few lessons and one member from Casagrande we we're visiting wanted to ordered us pizza, but since it was already late we had to turn her down for a different time. She still made us some papaya juice and I almost dropped the glass. We just wanted to go because I wasn't going to pass up my 4th of July barbeque! We went to a parrilla close to our house and bought some barbeque. F...

Week 77: The Right Place at the Right Time

Hola todos! I hope you're doing well! On Tuesday we got up early and went to Trujillo for our multizone conference with zonas Cajamarca and Guadalupe. It was great seeing the other missionaries and si had fun catching up with Elder Ríos and my old comps Elder Vilca and Elder Ochoa. Durante the bread however we went to the office because Elder Geisler was having health problems again. I gave him a blessing of health in English. It was honestly really hard to do it in English. Presidente Hiatt gave a great presentation on the new Preach My Gospel. For lunch we had Café Río Perú again and celebrated Elder Perez' birthday with some chocolate cake. Then we got some cheesecake for dessert and 2 minutes before we were supposed to start our training they brought out the blue lemonade. The training Elder Cordova and I did was based on the new chapter 13 of PMG, which is about working with members. We prepared a dynamic where a companionship had to listen a table by themselves with onl...
