Week 19: Alien Eggs

This week was a bit rougher than the past few because of transfers. I had to say goodbye to Tahuantinsuyo and Elder Beizaga even though I was only there for three weeks, but I think my new area, Central, (downtown Trujillo), will still be great.

On monday night Elder Beizaga and I along with Elder Compara and Elder Ronceros got some tres leche, which was 50% whipped cream on top. There was also a wedding going on just down the street so we got to listen to a live band all night.

On Tuesday we got a ride to the mission home where I said bye to Elder Beizaga. I was introduced to my new companion, Elder Palhua. Both of us are new to the area and he's even quieter than me. We had to stay at the home for about 5 or 6 hours without anything to do because for some reason they couldn't get us into our apartment. I think they just lost the key or something. So I just explored the closet and finally fou d something in English, a copy of "Our Heritage: A Brief History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints." I read that until about 8 and they just sent us to the ZL's apartment where I've been for the past week. We're with Elder Melendez and Elder Razzeto, who I think looks like a latino Sam Rockwell. I've had to live out of my suitcase and am running low on clothes because I wasn't able to get my laundry washed because of the transfer schedule. They brought in another mattress so all 4 of us could sleep, but it made the room really cramped and really hot and stuffy. I wasn't getting enough sleep this week because a few times we didn't get back to the apartment till past 11 and for some reason the alarm eould be set to a random time sometime between 6 and 6:30 and there was no way for me to earn that half hour of sleep back with how stuffy it was. Plus, one of the elders snores really loud. And he falls asleep so fast so there's no chance of you beating him and falling asleep first. Luckily, my mom packed me ear plugs so I was still able to fall asleep.

The apartment is quite a ways away from from our area and there's only one set of keys so we really weren't able to do much this week. We made a few calls, but just studied for the most part since there's not much we can do at the moment. It's a bit stressing not knowing the language and then getting changed to an area you have to open up with only three weeks training, which isn't much, especially when you were just getting used to your previous comp and area. So I was only with my trainer for three weeks, which I thought previously they tried to keep you with your trainer for atleast a transfer or two so you can get used to things. That's why this was so shocking. But there's nothing I can do except press forward, so that's what I'm going to do and make the most of an undesirable situation by placing my trust in the Lord.

To add on this I also became a little sick on Friday through Sunday and depleted the apartment's supply of paper towels for my runny nose.

On the opposite side of things I tried a new fruit called granadella which you eat by swallowing these little gray things that look like alien eggs without chewing because apparently that makes the taste very bitter. We went to a Chifa restaurant which gave us some delicious chinese and peruvian food. It was also nice being able to dee Elder Sorensen from the MTC a lot more since we're in the same zone now. I also went to one house where I was fed a bit too many wantons filled with meat and drank a bit of Inca Kola. We also fit 5 elders into the back seat of a car on Saturday. Sorry I don't have pictures.

On Sunday an old man passed out during sacrament meeting. He's alright now and nothing bad happened. We went over to Elder Sorensen's pensionista's house for dinner and tried to teach the latinos the difference between "joke" and "yoke." They can't pronounce it. We had a hamburger and some apple cobbler after we spent a little bit explaining games you can play with your companion just with your hands. Funny enough, the only ones we could think of all involved pain, like "tennis" and "draw."

I'm currently reading Romans in my study of the New Testament. Romans 8:38-39 read,
"38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
These verses explain the love of Christ perfectly. There's absolutely nothing in the universe and nothing we could do that could separate us from His love! How comforting is that? I hope you take a moment in your week to try and feel Christ's love for you.

Hopefully I'll be able to get out of the apartment more this week and get back to more missionary work! I hope you have a great week and feel the Savior's love for you!
