Week 31: Youth Music. Why'd it Have to be Youth Music.

This week went by both super fast and super slow. Hopefully it'll just speed it up from here!

Welp it's transfer week and I'm getting transfered yet again. They seem to move people around in my mission a lot. Both Elder Vilca and I are getting transfered, which is kind of sad because we both liked each other and had some progressing investigators. But we had one final meeting with some ward members on Monday and it turns out it was their anniversary! So they bought so much pollo a la brasa and soda for us it was crazy! It was delicious and I felt like I was a pig but I justified it as a farewell meal too.

On Tuesday we got all packed up and in the early afternoon we went to the mission home. It was pretty hard saying goodbye to central. Even though I was only there for 2 transfers, or about 3 months, I came to love the area and especially the ward members. I didn't get to saying bye to many of them but I guess that's part of the mission. I think I'll look back on this time with fondness. I'm sad to llave my comp too. I haven't had a comp for more than 6 weeks yet so I assume it'll be the same for this one. I'll also miss the apartment too. It was a nice apartment.

I met my new comp, Elder Cabrera, and we went up to Pueblo Libre, my new area. It's actually right next door to my first area, Tahuantinsuyo, but it's in a different zone and stake. The apartment is right next to the cemetary and a shop with a lot of creepy, bloody, clown art. It's right on the border of one of the most dangerous parts of Trujillo. I've heard is robber central and some other pretty scary stories about this part of town that occurred rather recently, but not to missionaries. That's probably why we're getting a new apartment this week. Luckily I haven't my fencing skills I can't use to defend myself. Now all I need is a sword... There's only one bathroom in my apartmentright now, which kind of sucks. There's also only one small window in the main room of the apartment and a lot of the lights don't work so it's pretty dark all the time. And because of that and the fact there's no window in the bedroom, when we go to sleep it gives way to absolute darkness and silence, that is until my comp starts snoring like a dinosaur. Thank you mom for packing me those ear plugs! But Elder Cabrera seems pretty cool and I think he'll be a good companion to help push along the work with.

The food our pensionista gives us is pretty good. But she plays youth music 24/7! Many of you know that I'm already annoyed with how much youth music they play down here, but this is sending me over the edge. I've never really been into modern pop music, and that's all youth music is. I tell you I'm going to lose it! I just want to rip my hair our every time they play "If You Believe," and pretty much any other youth song. Especially because her daughter will replay it over and over and over! I hate them because they get stuck in my head and I can't get them out no matter what I do. I didn't think "Great Work" was annoying until I had to listen to it 45 minutes straight 3 times a day. I'd rather think about and listen to my music from the Living Scriptures cartoons and arrangements of hymns. Because when I thought of good mission music I thought of the RM version of Called to Serve not just a modern pop song.  Sorry to those of you who like youth music. It's just been getting on my nerves, especially this past week. I'll tell you I've never been so grateful for paw patrol because it's glorious when she's watching that instead of clicking replay for the 40th time on "If You Believe." But then on Sunday the pensionista had hymns playing. That was a life saver and something I could get used to during meals. If only it would happen more frequently. First dogs and now youth music. Maybe I should turn rants into a weekly email occurance.

The first familia we met with was the primary president's family, and they seem like cool people. But they do feed me a little too much. The first time they gave me an orange, a banana, some soda crackers, and some juice. (Has anyone else down here noticed how literally every single carton of peach juice is Minions themed? Not even the sequel but the original. Didn't that come out 7 years ago? Are we drinking 7 year old peach juice?) But the next day for a noche de hogar they brought out a cake. Yum. But the problem is them trying to get me to eat a huge third slice after I already reluctantly agreed to the second. And no, I don't need another glass of Pepsi. I'm not trying to go for 3000 calories a day when my goal is 2000 or less. I already exceeded my caloría intake for this week with the pollo a la brasa on Monday, I don't need to make it so I don't need to est anything next week too. As missionaries we're not really supposed to watch anything but these people didn't care they just put on the new Mr. Beast video in Spanish. I never watched that guy before but some of my siblings did so they'd probably know. Despite all this, the ward seems really cool and I'm excited to meeting with them more.

We have quite a few investigators in this area and I'm excited to meet and teach them. This week I also had a good churro, some soft serve ice cream, and this weird half hamburger that was just all the filling of a hamburger placed on a thin slice of bread. Who knew that half hamburgers aren't as good as full hamburgers?

But I also love how many different family and company run pollo a la brasa restaurants there are that all have their own unique cartoon chicken logo advertising their own carcasses. They're all smiling saying, "come eat me and my family, we taste really good!" Every single one has a different logo so it's pretty funny to think about.

The ward has been meeting at 3 in the afternoon for a while in the stake center because our building is being cleaned. But next week we'll be meeting at 8 in the morning in the normal building. But I was disappointed that the ward has 3 young women each play one of the hymns out of the simplified hymn book so I don't get to play. I know that's selfish, but playing the piano brings me lots of joy. I was asked to play a rest hymn, so at least I got to do that.

That was my week. I'm still adjusting but I think it'll get better from here. I hope you have a great week!
