Week 34: Rolling Tire, Hear Me Almost Cry
Hola todos! Que tal? I hope you're doing well. My comp and I are trucking through it all but I'm loving every second of it.
On Tuesday we had a "full day" ward activity where we kind of just hung out at the chapel all day with all the ward members. We couldn't join in any of the activities because of mission rules, so we couldn't dance or play volleyball with the ward members (since it wasn't pday). So we kinda just bounced from hanging around the grill outside to the kitchen inside over and over. The food was great though. Finally had barbecue that was actually warm. We had chicken for lunch at 1, picarrones, which are kind of like donut scones dipped in honey, for a snack, and papa reinas for dinner. I did eat chicken feet for the first time. It's hard to eat. A lot of work for such little mest and flavor for a reward. One of our investigators, Dante, actually came for a little bit. He left early which was kind of sad, but honestly, I can't blame him because it's draining and boring just standing there for 7 hours. He regularly attends sacrament meeting now, but it's still hard getting appointments with him during the week, especially because he's a single father of 2 daughters. We think we're helping him progress and we know your prayers will help!
On our way to the pensionista for breakfast one day we just saw this tire rolling down the hill. We don't know where it came from but it was just rolling down. It didn't stop until it hit the curb because our area is all hills. I think it was from a mototaxi. It was just a strange sight to see a tire rolling down the hill for no reason.
We're still meeting with Hugo, but we don't think he's going to be baptized anytime soon. We really don't know what to do, especially because he likes when we come to visit. I'm fearing we're just going to keep reading chapters from the BoM to him and teaching mini lessons that aren't really going to help him or we're just going to have to drop him because he can't make the commitment.
On Wednesday everyone in the mission was permitted by the secretary of finances and president to go to the mall, pull our money, and buy things we need for the month. I bought another pair of exercise pants, an ab wheel, and some casinos, which is a candy kind of like an oreo but it's rectangle and I feel it actually has sufficient filling. And it comes in more flavors too. I bumped into a bunch of other missionaries I know, including Elder Rios, my workout buddy from Central, and Elder Barrantes, my buddy from the CCM.
On Saturday we went to a different chapel in the stake to clean it. This one was a lot smaller so it didn't take as much time as the last one. Right before we started fasting Elder Cabrera bought this one dessert to share with me. I can't remember what it was called, but it was literally just a hot dog bun with some chocolate spread on top. And it wasn't even a very good hot dog bun.
We went up to hermana Elva's house for a noche hogar that really just turned into what my dad would call, "fogging at the member's house." But I practiced my Spanish a lot and am building a great relationship with this awesome family, especially their 10 year old daughter, Perolita. We sit and watch their bunnies and talk about everything. We did start watching YouTube and I showed them a few of my old Lego creations I have posted on there, and man that made me miss Legos. But then I turned on Unboxing Bros, (my brothers Will and Andy's channel), and watched their last videos they posted while I've been out and right before Will left for his mission. Man they're funny. I was translating them for the family and my comp and they laughed quite hard at some parts, like when Andy pretended to be the stereotypical girl at Disneyworld in their vacation video. Then I watched the last UB video which was a goodbye right before Will left on his mission. It was sad and I felt like crying. Unboxing Bros is forever. Then they fed us some pollo la brasa for a second dinner, which was fine because I had only had a small sleeve of Ritz for dinner. This family is just so awesome and their so fun. I talk a lot with them, which is great for my Spanish.
Surprisingly, we actually did something for pday today! Instead of doing nothing we went to the stake center to have a barbecue with the zone! We brought a bastante amount of meat. Beef, chicken, ribs, sausages, hamburgers, and soda. I may have made a few dastardly creations myself.
That was my week! Things are a little slow on the investigator side, but we're going to be stepping up our games this week. Thank for your suporte and have an amazing week!
