Week 37: Baby Vampire Bunnies
How are you doing? This was a pretty good week! I hope that you also had a great week!
Tuesday was Elder Cabrera's last day in the area so we went around to say goodbye to some of the members. We visited hermano Enrique, hermana Veronica y Hugo, and hermana Elva. At hermana Elva fed us some chicken and Perlita showed me how much the baby bunnies have grown. They actually have hair now and the white ones have red eyes, just like their mother. So now there are 4 or 5 vampire bunnies and not just one. They can be a little freaky to look at, when we can get them to open their eyes. We actually had to chase Ruby around the room because she escaped. Eventually we got her trapped behind a pallet and I was able to pick her up and put her back in the cage. We shared a message and said goodbye. It was actually a little sad for Cabrera.
On Wednesday, Salome, the daughter of the pensionista's neighboring who is always in the house, was visibly sad because Elder Cabrera liked to tease her and she didn't want him to leave. After we left she chased us down and gave Cabrera a candy bar. This goodbye was probably the saddest one. We got a taxi to the offices and got ready for transfers. I had to exchange a fifty with Elder Castillo, the secretary of finances, for coins to pay for the taxis. Apparently he didn't have any bills so I was walking around with my wallet weighing my belt down for a while. Saw some other missionaries I know, said goodbye to Cabrera, and off I went with Elder Macedo. He was previously serving in the area Indoamerica, which is right next door to and in the same district as Pueblo Libre, so this is a pretty big change for him.
Elder Macedo actually has a personality so some things will take some getting used to, especially the touchiness. I also figured out that in Spanish, "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" is just "Lluvia de Hamburgesas," or "Rain of Hamburgers." That's a little wild. I introduced him to some of the ward members and hermano Enrique fed us Ritz crackers with some caramel sauce on it. It was actually pretty good.
We started working and had lots of calls this week, all teaching the restoration. Normally when we receive references through areabook the numbers don't work, they don't pick up, or they'll lose interest after a few calls. But this time all of our references, about 4 or 5, were interested and we made it all the way through the restoration and accepted a Book of Mormon! So now this week we're going to give them each a copy and begin teaching them in person. But they're really aren't many BoMs to give out here. By the end of this week we'll only have about 1 left and who knows when we'll be able to receive more.
On Friday we received a reference from a young woman in the ward. It's one of her friends, hermana Maylin. We got the reference and not even 20 minutes later we had a new person, a confirmed church attendance, and a lesson with her on Sunday. The member is going to accompany us. This really is a miracle and I'm trusting in the Lord that she'll progress! On Saturday we went to the stake center for a stake activity. All the wards put together their own soccer teams and had a tournament. That is, all except our ward because very few people from Pueblo Libre showed up. It was hard having to turn down the slices of cake and King Kong they were offering us because we were fasting. But afterwards we went looking for an investigators house we are going to visit on Monday, because the address wouldn't show up on maps. Her name is hermana Keyla and the reason why we have a cita with her is actually kind of funny. I was going through our yellow points a week ago and called her, but she cut the call. We dropped her from teaching and I decided to send one of the last resort invitation messages we can send when we drop people. Five minutes later we got a text from her saying she misunderstood who we were and asked us when we wanted to come over. Afterwards we went to the chapel to hold our English class, of which no one came to.
On Sunday morning we went to Agripina and Pamela's house to invite them to church. They were busy, but we taught them about the gift of the Holy Ghost. We have another lesson with them on Wednesday where we hope to fix a baptismal date with them. Your prayers will help! We had also invited all our references to come but none of them did. I hope meeting with them in person this week will help build trust and we can get them next week. But we did have hermano Dante and Maylin come, which was great. Dante is looking for a new house, so we're going to try to progress with him fast and get him baptized before he moves.
Today we went to the boulevard with the elders from Esperanza. The boulevard is in my old area, central, and I used to teach an investigator there when I was with Elder Vilca. I'm the only one of us for who doesn't care for anime, and Elder Barlow didn't really care, so we kind of just followed Elder Macedo and Elder Compara around to various anime stores. So I just looked around and tried not to stare at the movie posters with spoilers on them. I actually ran into hermano Fernando and hermana Gabby in the store, 2 awesome members from Central. So I guess that made the 2 hours of random Goku and Naruto figurines worth it. I also got stocked up on candy for general conference this weekend at the super market. Because Sunday is also the elections here, we're not allowed to leave the apartment or have any organized meetings since things might get crazy.
That was my week. I'm really hoping that this week we can get more of our investigators to church, especially hermanas Agripina and Pamela. I know you're prayers will help. Have a fantastic week!

4. Baby bunnies! Let me know if you think they're cute or hideous!
5. Please, Woody, put your hat back on. No one wants to see the hole in your head.
6. This was awkward for both of us. I don't recommend doing it.
