Week 62: Come On Barbie Let's Go Party

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a great week! This was kind of just a week for me, but it still had it's moments.

Right after pday we waited for a bus for 30 minutes at our usual bus stop. They normally don't take that long but the rain kind of threw it off, but eventually we got one. We had a small lesson with hermana Yessenia and Erick and their family. Their family is so funny since they have a bunch of young kids and now that I'm older I can see what my family's family home evenings must've looked like. I have more respect for my parents now. But I love their family and they're so funny and I love going over there.

On Tuesday we had our first session of our emotional resilience class. It was 90 minutes long and a required thing we're doing. They separated us by language, so all the English speakers are together and we do it be zoom. We'll see how this goes.

I was planning on doing exchanges with Jardines on Wednesday after district council but on Tuesday night the ZLs told us that we had interviews with president that day. Then later we found out that they were actually for Thursday. So that kind of threw everything off. I wish the office would let us know about interviews at least a week in advance, because announcing them only a day before will definitely cause problems with our lessons -_- We had to reschedule everything pretty much. We ended up moving our interviews back an hour so we could have some lessons we already had planned. But maybe the interviews were fine because all our lessons canceled -_- We even had one planned with Nayeli and her mom. We were planning to put her on date, too. But because they all canceled we actually had time to get to the offices in bus instead of taxi, which is much cheaper but takes 30 minutes. Interviews were great, this one hit different. Afterwards we were able to go over to the chapel after seminary to share a quick message with Nayeli since we hadn't been able to in the past 2 weeks. We invited her to baptism and she accepted, we just need her mom's approval now to put her on date. We have another lesson with them on Tuesday, so we'll see how that goes!

We met with some other people this week. We taught a man named Víctor who has a shirt with drawings of tubs of Nutella on it. We also met with an inactive member named Martín and started to explained to him the restoration again. He told us that he was baptized because missionaries in the past pressured him, so we're trying to help him understand a bit more. He came to church on Sunday, so we're making a little progress. Bryan came with us to a few lessons this week and he's still likes listening to horrible music. But he's funny and I like him. But he has been listening to the "Barbie Girl" song a lot, which is weird but atleast it's better than the other stuff he's been listening too. He's also been obsessed with clapping our hands and getting the perfect sound, which is something we as Elders normally and naturally do with the other Elders, so he's taken an interest in it. He's kind of gotten obsessed so we have to do it everytime we see each other now.

On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday we had pretty much all of our lessons cancel. Actually, Saturday is the first day in months where we worked hard all day but didn't have a single lesson. I know I'm not serving in Japan or Armenia where lessons don't happen everyday, but I still felt peace that day because I knew what I was doing was what the Lord wanted, even if the outward results didn't show it. For that I felt joy in the work. I'm in Perú where lots of people want to listen to us, but if that doesn't happen it's totally fine as long as we're trying our best in a diligent way. I know it's fine because I felt peace about what I was doing, and a testimony that it's all true.

On Sunday we saw Nayeli at church, as well as Yessenia and Erick. Hermana Mercedes came, and she's in a similar situation to Yessenia and Erick where she's waiting for divorce papers so she can get married and baptized. But she hadn't been to church in a while before Eldeg Larkin and I showed up, so we're doing what we can with them. Hermana Paty also brought her neighbor's daughter Roismary with her. We've taught her before but it's almost impossible to get a lesson with them. After church we had more lessons cancel on us. But we decided to visit one man who had canceled on us the day before, named Hamilton. He's cool and it was fun teaching him. He's been taught in the past but some things didn't make sense to him so he stopped learning. He's had some hard things happen in the past few months so he's happy to hear us again. I'm excited to see if he'll progress. We also met with another inactive family, la familia Hunaca Vasquez, who we hope we can progress towards marriage and baptism for some of the members.

That's pretty much all that happened for me. Please pray for hermana Nayeli and her family, as well as hermano Cirilo and his family. They definitely need your prayers. Have an absolutely fantastic week!
