Week 72: Battle Hymn of the Primavera Stake Choir
How are you all doing? I hope you all had a great week!
On Tuesday we passed by to see Maria and Marta but they weren't around, so we said hi to Elio, an inactive youth and his mom Gaby. It turns out that Gaby's partner, who's an inactive member, recently moved back to Trujillo to work when he used to work in the mountains. So hopefully we can start teaching them more consistently and about marriage. We also had a lesson with our friend Mike, who sells animal food. He's interested and read all of what we gave him to read in the BoM and a little bit more. Afterwards we helped Nina put up some posters of scenery that are actually from a motorcycle catalog. Then she tried yo teach us to dance the marinara. She's so sweet, but also likes to make fun of us sometimes.
The next day we went to the offices to finish our exchange with Jardines and start one with Bellavista. I had thought that after finishing the exchange with Jardines that we would go back to the apartment for Elder Lopez to have his emotional resilience class, so I didn't bring my stuff with me. But then the bus ran late so we just went over to the Jardines apartment so they could have their class while I just read in the BoM. They ended up spending the class trying to open a door that locked itself in the apartment. But I know I don't have much common sense because I didn't think it through that it probably would've been better to bring all my stuff to the offices instead of planning on returning to Huanchaco, so I started our exchange with Bellavista with what I brought: my water bottle, BoM, and the mission picture book. Which honestly is all we need on exchanges. I went with Elder Sulca and we were able to find 4 new people. Something I wasn't expecting was that a car pulled up and they called my name. It was Alan and Jennifer from Pueblo Libre! I hadn't seen them or heard from them since they stopped answerimg our calls. But it was fun to see them and they told me that Jennifer's little sister, Flavia, who has since turned 8, was living with her mom just down the street! So we went over and said hi and set up a lesson with them on Sunday. I don't know if anything'll come of it, but I was there at the right time and in the right place for it to happen, and that is evidence of the guidance of the spirit for me.
On Friday we had a lesson with Maria and Nayeli. All we could do was testify of keeping commitments. Afterwards we helped sed that Ammi, Lalo's daughter made it to the young women's activity with the help of some members. And then we had a great lesson Merly about the gospel of Jesus Christ. We invited her to baptism and she accepted! She is so golden and already has a strong testimony of the BoM. The only thing is that she'll be moving to Spain in 2 weeks so we'll see what we can do. We're talking a lot about repentance and forgiveness with Elis because she's feeling that she needs to clear some things up in her life. We're doing what we can, and with hope and faith I know she'll be baptized, even if right now isn't her time
On Saturday night we had the adult session of stake conference. Elder Ricardo Nieves was there presiding. We could go because our friend Merly went, and she brought with her her mother and sister in law. We arrived a little late because of the traffic, but we were able to find Merly and sit behind her. It was good and Merly said they all loved it, and that her mom now wants to hear us too. On Sunday we went to the general session at 11. Hermana Ángela came with hermana Nina. She took notes by sending them in messages to us, so our phone was blowing up during the conference. Hermana Elis and her kids also came, and they liked it as well and thought it was "interesting." Probably because of the last choir song, which was an arrangement of Battle Hymn of the Republic that I've heard the Tabernacle Choir sing. They started to play it and it sounded familiar until I realized it's the exact version I have on my speaker! And I'd say it works for them, but probably not a small choir from the Primavera stake. But it's so fun to hear them sing.
Sunday night we were supposed to receive transfer news but President dropped a bombshell on us that we are going to be receiving 28 new missionaries this transfer! I don't know how much other missions normally get, but that is an insane number for us. That means practically half of the hermanas are going to be training or guiding, and a large number of elders. And the news aren't coming until Friday so transfers are going to be on Thursday and we won't find about transfer news until Tuesday. We're also opening up a new zone, zona Jerusalén, because the stakes recently divided and so the zone is splitting too. But that means so many areas are getting split up there. President also said that Huanchaco is going to get split too. That means they'll probably split the district too. but who knows we'll see what happens.
Have a great week!
