Week 75: What Does He Ask?

Well this was quite the week!

On Tuesday we waited for 45 minutes for the bus to leave so we could go visit Elder Larkin and Elder Gallegos in Chiclín. We talked for a while before heading back for our blitz with the APs. I went with Elder Gerber and Elder Cordova went with my father Elder Beizaga. We went to all the lessons we had planned while the others went to go find. But we ended up doing a lot of finding too because a lot of our lessons fell. We had a noche hogar with our friend Belgica and her daughter Melani in the house of our pensionista with the stake president. We taught about love and charity and played some games. It went well, and Belgica's son Mateo kept coming over to me and E Gerber and squirting his bottle of hand sanitizer. Our hands were very clean by the end of the night. The other elders bought pizza from a place called taco pizza. It wasn't very good but hey It was pizza.

Wednesday definitely didn't go the way I thought it was going to. We woke up and hermana Diane made us papá con miga for breakfast. It's a dish that only existe here in Casa Grande. Miga is like the crumbs or the inside of bread and the dish is kind of like a soup that's made from bread and is served with potatoes. I know it sounds weird but it's delicious. I forgot to take a photo so I'll do that next time I have it. Then Presidente Hiatt sent us a message and asked us to go over to the elders in Chocope again, and told us to analyze the situation to see if we would need to go to Trujillo. I can't share all the details but we ended up having to take an elder to Trujillo so he could recover from a health issue. We had to tell the other elders who had showed up for their district council that the meeting would be postponed. We gave them boxes of Books of Mormons so that was good for them. The elder packed his things and we got a taxi to Trujillo. We got there and the secretaries ordered pizza for us because we had to skip lunch. While we were stuck waiting there with nothing to do we went to the store and did some mid month shopping. I got some milk and cereal. We then had some pizza for lunch (it was Papa John's, much better than Taco Pizza). Then we returned back to Casa Grande with our new companion Elder Perez! He's a greenes with 2 weeks in the mission and will be with us until further notice. He's great and it's been fun having him around.

On Thursday we had our exchange with Paijan that we had planned for Wednesday. I went to Paijan with Elder Jones while Elder Sanchez came to Independencia with Elder Cordova and Elder Perez. We planned our day and followed the spirit. We had a lesson with a young woman and her siblings named Olenca, who Elder Cordova and I had actually contacted with in Independencia. She's a member but her siblings aren't. They seem cool and want to come to church. I also called a reference they had in areabook that had been sitting there for a few days. She was an inactive member but she told us she wanted her kids to go to church and receive the missionary lessons. We went there and presented ourselves. We taught them a little about Jesus and put them on date for baptism for July 8th! Their mom said that it was their decision so if they wanted to it's fine. After that we taught an english class to the youth and it was quite fun.

Immediately after we finished the exchange with Paijan We had interview with Presidente Hiatt over zoom. Then we started another exchange with Casa Grande. This time I stayed in Independencia with Elder McCullough and Elder Cordova went to Casa Grande with Elder Cerna. We had a great time teaching lessons and contacting in the street. But man Elder McCullough already has perfect spanish. We visited a man named Carlos and his son. Carlos has talked with the missionaries before but has never really had a lesson with them, but he's good friends with a few members, including the stake president. We had a great lesson about prophets and how the gospel blessed lives and families. I hope he can progress.

Saturday was a very good day. Our friend Enzo came back from studying in Trujillo for the weekend. We had give him 2 Nephi 31 to read and he told us on Sat that he was very excited to talk to us about what he read. Man he's understanding so well and immediately accepted that the authority was restored through Joseph Smith. He agreed to be baptized July 8th too! Man just seeing how the Lord prepares people is amazing. He gave a powerful prayer to finish. That night we ate some caldo de gallina and had a family home evening with an awesome family, la familia Rojas Miyahara. Hermana Susy makes cakes and gave us each a sílice of tres leches.

Sunday was a little slowly at church because father's day is an excuse not to come to church. But it was still fun because I FINALLY gave my first talk in sacrament meeting in the mission field. It seems like the bishops in my old wards didn't trust me. But I spoke about missionary work, basing it on D&C 6:33-37. Those verses talk about doing good and why we should do it, including, not fearing, feeling unworthy, remembering God, and most importantly, the why of missionary work. Jesus gave everything for us. He's asking us to do this for Him. Really the atonement of Jesus Christ is the reason for all of this, and it's how we show our love for Him. What does He ask? Live like His son. After church we had pollo broaster for lunch and visited a bunch of people. We visited hermana Anita again, the member who's blind, has severe asthma, and feels lonely. We helped give her some comfort and sang hymns for her. That night we had a great lesson in a mototaxi with a recent converts named Angel who hasn't come to church in a while. We expressed our love, felt and spoke with the spirit, and formed a connection with him. He promised to start doing the things he wasn't doing so he could be happier.

Today for pday we watched Legacy together as a district.

That was a pretty full week and it was quite fun! I'm so happy loving by doing the Lord's work and honestly I don't want it to end. Have a great week!
