Week 77: The Right Place at the Right Time
Hola todos! I hope you're doing well!
On Tuesday we got up early and went to Trujillo for our multizone conference with zonas Cajamarca and Guadalupe. It was great seeing the other missionaries and si had fun catching up with Elder Ríos and my old comps Elder Vilca and Elder Ochoa. Durante the bread however we went to the office because Elder Geisler was having health problems again. I gave him a blessing of health in English. It was honestly really hard to do it in English. Presidente Hiatt gave a great presentation on the new Preach My Gospel. For lunch we had Café Río Perú again and celebrated Elder Perez' birthday with some chocolate cake. Then we got some cheesecake for dessert and 2 minutes before we were supposed to start our training they brought out the blue lemonade. The training Elder Cordova and I did was based on the new chapter 13 of PMG, which is about working with members. We prepared a dynamic where a companionship had to listen a table by themselves with only one finger, the point being that they can't alone and need the help of others to accomplish even greater things. But the other missionaries cheated and lifted it more with their hand and curled their finges around so it didn't work. But whatever they got the point. After the conference we went back to Casa Grande and found Eduardo (Chocope) in the street and had a lesson with him in his car. After that we had a lesson with some inactive members who are returning to the church, Cesar and Angel. That night we had a lesson with hermano Carlos and his family with stake president Rivas joining us. We testified of the Book of Mormon and it was a good lesson. They still haven't come to church but I know they have been prepared by the Lord.
On Wednesday we had exchanges again with Paijan. This time I went to Paijan with Elder Sanchez! Always fun to be with one of my old comps again. We talked a lot about patience and change, because I've definitely changed a lot since the last time we served together, and he noticed. He's changed too and is a great teachers. It was fun joking around with him and reliving old memories. We found quite a few new people together and had a lesson with Robert and Briana, 2 children that Elder Jones and I had put on date the last time I went on exchanges there. Man they are so prepared (*finger snapping thing*). We even got on a bus and went halfway to Puerto Malabrigo, a Beach down that's in their área, to teach some lessons. The next day we had to get back to Casa Grande, but Elder Sanchez didn't have any money. There was also an activities for the youth of the stake in Casa Grande, so when the pensión called him and told him there were extra seats, we ran from her house to go grab my stuff from the apartment and then to the capilla, my breakfast egg sandwich in hand. We ended up going from Paijan to Casa Grande in a mototaxi, which was very weird and a bumpy ride.
On Thursday after the exchange we decided to go to Sausal to visit some people there. It's a small town about 25 minutes in taxi away from Casa Grande. It's very beautiful and actually are quite a few trees. We had a lesson with Victoria, who's actually pretty interested so we'll see what we can do. She wants to come to church and we had a very spiritual lesson, even though we were interrupted twice by 2 different parades. After that we visited some members and searched for some grey dots. The whole time E Cordova and E Perez were kicking rocks and bottle at my feet trying to get them through my legs. My legs and feet were being bullied, but man I love this companionship. We went to go leave at 6, but there weren't any cars. We went to the gate of the town but there still weren't any, just trucks and some busses going to Cascas. We asked somebody if rhere were any cars going to Casa Grande and they looked at us with big eyes and said that there aren't any more at that time of day. So I said a prayer and we waited for a bus to come. One going to Trujillo came by and we boarded to get off at Chicama and from there get a ride to Casa Grande. When we got on the bus I noticed the phone wasn't in my pocket, which is where I sworn I had put it. Elder Cordova also looked worried and thought I was lying when I told him I didn't have it. Then all of the sudden Elder Perez took it out of his pocket. We still don't know how he got it.
Friday we went to a few lessons and then had a bautismal interview for an hermana in Ascope. She was so ready for baptism. After that we found hermana Esther in the street, an hermana we had been trying to contact for a while. That night we went to a lesson with Carlos and his family. We explained the Book of Mormon again and they have lots of questions which is a good sign. We invited them to church but they said the couldn't because of work. But their son Tiago really wanted to go so we'll hope for next week.
On Sunday we saw Enzo come to church as well as hermana Joysse, a recent convert who hadn't come in a few weeks. She kind of surprised us because we thought she wasn't there but then it turns out she was sitting at the front. The testimonies were great and we ended our fast. After lunch we went to Sausal again and had a meeting with Beatriz and Cesar, two members who live over there. Cesar offered to drive us to talk with some semi recent converts, Santos and Sabina. They live on a farm close to Sausal and Santos gave us a tour of it! It was fun being out in the field with mountains in the distance. We saw fish, guinea pigs, a flock of turkeys, and a lot of chickens. After that we returned and got the news that Elder Perez is getting emergency transferred to Cartavio so we won't be in a trio anymore. It was a fun 3 weeks. Then we went to our friend Miguel, who's 13, and his sister Sharpey, who's 11. Their dad was there, who's 83. We were able to talk about the gospel and baptism and hermano Miguel told his dad that he wanted to be baptized. He had been on date before, but his dad said no. This time his dad said yes, if he would be ready by the date! We put him on date for the 22nd! We also went to a few lessons with the pensionista's sons Alvin and Joseph.
I don't have much more time, so I hope you all have a great week!
Elder Jensen
