Week 91: Wait a Second, Did that Guy Just Rob Us?

Hola todos! How are you doing?

After pday on monday we had a quick lesson with hermano Jose and her sister Andrea joined us for it.

On Tuesday we started to do a bit of planning for the zone because we had the spirit of revelation with us. After lunch we had a drop lesson with Sebastian, someone who only believes in the Torah and doesn't really want to learn more. We gave hermana Carmen a blessing of health because she requested it and later taught hermano James about the Holy Ghost. He finished his exams so he should have more time now. We tried finding a few pfs using the ward member list, but we just got rejected by others instead. We taught hermano Cicerón about the fall of Adam and Eve and he had a lot of great questions, like always. That night we visited hermano Valentino and he filled out his baptismal form and we taught him a few of the commandments. That night as we walked him we got a callfrom the APs and they told us that I was staying and that Elder Agostinelli would be leaving on Thursday for transfers. Well, it was an awesome transfer.

On Wednesday we had to go get Elder Agostinelli's new ID. Wow, he had his ID stolen his first day here in Chan Chan and then finally got a new one his last day here. After lunch he started packing while created a flyer for Valentino's baptism and cleaned up PME. We taught hermano Jose and E Agostinelli said goodbye to Andrea. She also gave us some cake to say goodbye. That night we finished up teaching Valentino and then had a great lesson about the Church of Jesus Christ with Jhonathan, Kiara, and Estefano.

On Thursday Elder Agostinelli finished packing and we went to the offices after trading ties and signing each other's things. He even gave me the Lego Millenium Falcon microfighter he got from Elder Goates.  We got to the offices and we were able to talk with a bunch of other missionaries. Presidente then presented me to my new companion, Elder Salas! He's from Ecuador. After a while Elder Agostinelli was told he's going to Cajamarca! Wow all of my mission friends are going to Cajamarca this transfer. I finally was able to give Elder Sanchez one of my ties too. After transfers we came back to Chan Chan with Elder Salas and with Elder Keller who's going to be training so he had to stay with us while he waited for his trainee to come. We had some lessons with hermano Cicerón and hermano James. That night hermano Valentino had his baptismal interview and passed!

On Friday we left to have a lesson with an investigator in California and taught him the commandments. After lunch we headed back to California to get the baptismal clothes for Valentino and to teach another friend there. Afterwards we taught hermana Gabriela about repentance. She's keeping her commitments and is progressing very well. We also taught hermano Jose with hermana Andrea as well. We played some fun card game before going to bed that Elder Keller brought.

On Saturday we dropped E Keller off ot the offices and we found some copies of the restoration pamphlet. We then went to clean up the baptismal font for the elders of Central and ourselves. We had to pull out quite a few crickets, so that was fun. Afterwards we had a leadership call over zoom about how we can better help the missionaries to have joy in the work. After lunch we started our fast and did a bit of planning. We had a small lesson in the street with a man names Luis, who lives really close to our house. We then got a taxi to the chapel to give the keys to members of our ward. We saw the end of the baptism in Central and finally at 5:15 people from our ward started showing up for the baptism. Hermana Genesis set up a lot of decorations and brought a cake and a bunch if snacks. Wow, right when we're fasting. We ended up starting the baptism at 5:45. It was well organized and I performed the baptism. Hermano Valentini wasn't scared at all and he did it perfectly the first time. We quickly changed and hermana Genesis gave a beautiful testimony. Hermana Gabriela had also come and she told us that she had also teared up during her testimony. We finished the service and we kept our slices of cake for later. That night we had a noche de hogar with hermana Patricia and her kids. We taught them the restoration and the Book of Mormon. We also pushed their baptismal date back a week becaude next week is stake conference and we want them to be able to be confirmed the day after instead of waiting an entire week.

On Sunday hermano Valentino was confirmed! Hermano James, hna Gabriela, hna Isabel, and hno Jhonathan, Kiara, y Estefano came. After the meetings we stayed around and talked with an investigator from Central who came early and we had our mission coordination meeting. We broke our fast and then did some planning for our week and the zone. After that we left. Then something happened to me for the first time in the mission and I'm not very proud to say it, but we got robbed. We were programming a lesson with a member who had just left in a taxi when this man came around the corner. He started talking to us normally about what we preached as missionaries and then asked us to program what I thought was his number in our phone. While I did it he grabbed my fingers and ripped them away from the phone. I still had no idea what was going on, since this was my first time being robbed. For some reason my mind didn't register that his intent was to rob us, so I didn't react properly. He quickly walked away. I followed him and grabbed his arm to stop him, but then he pulled out a large box cutter and flicked it at me, so I instinctively backed off and then he ran away. I stood there shocked for a few seconds and then I realized for the first time in this whole incident that we were being robbed. That was weird. Elder Agostinelli told me that the first time he was robbed he didn't realize it was happening until after it happened, abd apparently the same thing happened with me. We were able to file a repirt with the police and then called President using hermano Roger's phone. This all happened at 4:30 in the afternoon very close to a public park where there were a lot of people. Eventually we were told to go to the offices where we were given a new phone. On the way back we taught a woman namez Yanett, so that was cool. I'm okay, just trying to not see the whole situation in slow motion and criticize myself, because I know it all happened very fast. But it's still better to just lose the phone instead of retain it but have to get stitches in my arm, so I did the right thing.

Welp I'll be trying to forget about that experience, but we still had a good week other than that! Have a great week!
