Week 96: Current, Near Future, and Future Missionaries
Hola todos! I hope you all had an amazing week!
On Monday after pday we had our new missionary training and then had a noche de hogar with the Puglisivich family.
On Tuesday we had exchanges with the APs! I went to Villa del Mar for the first time and stayed their with Elder Goates and Elder Cuff. We had fun that day while planning, eating, contacting, and teaching. We had a great lesson that night with a family and we felt the spirit a lot. I learned a lot from both of them. It's so weird how Elder Goates is finishing his mission today. I also got to ride in one of the Huanchaco busses again, so that made me happy. That night we had some great chaufa for dinner and played Exploding Kittens.
The next day we finished the exchange before breakfast in the offices where we gave feedback, praises, and tips. I also had to saw goodbye to Elder Beizaga, my first comp in the field. Technically he wasn't my father but I will always consider him to be. At breakfast hermana Merly told me that she got her mission call! She's going to the México Guadalajara mission! She doesn't leave tell March, but it's so exciting! I'm so excited for her and she's honestly going to be one of the best missionaries ever. We had district council and the senior missionaries, Elder y Hermana Batioja, joined us. Elder Keller scared us because we almost lost our cake reward for CNNs this week because we didn't report. But we quickly did and he brought in the cake. That afternoon we had a lot of failed contacts. We had a lesson planned with an hermana named Mariana at 3 in the afternoon, but we had to move it to 6:30. She's someone that Elder Polo contacted when he was here, but she was dropped because they couldn't get ahold of her. But she answered her phone and said we could come over! So we went over and taught her a small lesson about our purpose in life and the existence of truth and a true church. We invited her to come to church and she said yes! We also had an awesome lesson with Patricia, Jhonatan, Kiara, and Estefano about temples. I love that family so much.
Thursday morning we had a call lesson with Jeidy! Hermana Merly joined us as we taught her about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She accepted a baptismal date for the 2nd of December! I'll be hard because she says she only has time Thrusdays in the morning for lessons over call. We think there's more to that, but we'll figure it out. We were also informes of a stake activity involving the missionaries that was planned without the help of the missionaries! -_- And then was only made known to us 2 day before without many of the details! It's an activity called "1 day in the mission" where basically the youth were going to spend about 7 hours with us as we do our work from 9 to 4. There were so many details left out so we had to ask the Stake President what was going on. That afternoon we taught a reference named Alejandro about the Book of Mormon. He's a Catholic who doesn't really want to change his faith but we answered his questions and hope that the Spirit will touch him as he reads the BoM. Elder Salas' brother got home from his mission that day so he got permission from Presidente to watch him get off the plane. Later we taught hermano James. Elder Beizaga and Elder Cárdenas were very direct with him on Tuesday, but that seemed to help him. He wants to have an experience like what the members who expressed their testimonies on Sunday have had. We had another lesson on recognizing the spirit and humility. He really does want to know and is doing a lot to receive his answer, he just needs to recognize it and accept it. We suggested meeting in the chapel where we'll be able to feel the spirit more, fasting, and going to the temple. We know one of these things'll work. We passed by a house that I had been inspired to knock the day before to see if we could find the man who answered, but he wasn't there. Instead we found his sister, who's actually a member! And she has family who aren't members! Wow the spirit truly does guided us to where we need to be. Her name's Noemi. We taught hermano Jose about the apostasy and hermana Andrea told us that she had been assigned to speak on Sunday! She was assigned to speak about baptism. That night we visited hermano Waldir and shared a brief message with him. We also asked him to accompany us to lessons with James. He'll be an amazing help for him. We got to the pensión and hermano Estefano was there watching the Living Scriptures cartoon about Paul. President Hiatt also called us and asked us what we knew about the activity on Saturday. He gave us a tad bit of hope and information, but he also thought that it could've been organized better. We got scared when he called, though, because we assumed the worst that I would be called to be the finances secretary for my last transfer.
On Friday we had Asuntos del Padre and the APs gave us some ideas to help us with some problems we're having in the zone. We had a small videocall with Buenos Aires 2 after lunch and had a lesson with Mirian about tithing. Elder Beizaga had put her son Angel on date when they visited them on Tuesday, which was awesome, but sadly he wasn't there that day. We later taught hermana Evelyn. She recently got all the tubes that were in her removed, so she's still recovering. But she'll definitely get baptized once she can come to church again. That night we visited the Farfán family across the street form Mirian and invited their son Victor to come with us to some lessons on the weekends. He's training to become a professional soccer player and has been inactive for a while but miraculously Elder Cárdenas on Tuesday saw him and helped him get interested in the Gospel again. We also visited hermano Valentino again and showed him the cartoon about the sabbath day that's in the church's app.
On Saturday we went to the activity in California. Missionaries from Zona Primavera also came because we needed more missionaries, and it was fun talking to Hermana Secrist about hermana Nina and Huanchaco. They assigned us different youths from different wards and we had planning and study time with them. We had them study the restoration while I did MyPlan. Then I also studied the restoration. We discussed that during our comp study with our young friends, hermano Mosíah and hermano Renzo from Vista Alegre. We went back for lunch in the house of hermana Jovana and then went back to California to pick them up to come and proselyte with us for 2 hours. Elder Salas and I had to assign the Elders from Primavera to the areas in Central because the youth weren't allowed to leave the stake. So they were just told to go to their various areas and talk with people in the streets. We did a few contacts with Mosíah and Renzo and we taught an elderly member who can't come to church because he's very sick. We sent the youth back to the chapel at 4 and we continued with our day as normal. We went to hermana Mirian's house 3 times and pounded on their door but no one answered. We had a powerful lesson with hermano Walter and hermana Elena. We explained the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Then we felt prompted to start with the holy trinity of burn talks from the last general conference by listening to Elder Godoy's talk with them. They understood that their decisions now will affect their posterity for generations, starting with their own sons. I invites them to take steps towards getting married. I was pretty direct with them, but firm. They both agreed to take steps and pray about it. It's something they both want, they just have to do it. It felt good to speak directly by the power of the spirit and touched their hearts. We went to hermana Mirian's house again and she answered! Apparently she had been sleeping earlier -_- We used the flashlights because she doesn't have light in her house. We taught her ans Angel about the Gospel of Jesus Christ again and I was surprises at Angel's understanding. Then we went to the chapel to see hermana Merly open up her call in front of the JAS, when in reality it looked like most of the ward came. We entered in and I looked at the guy next to the door and then walked past him and the took a second look and realized it was Elder Polo! He had come up for a little family gathering and stopped by to see Merly open up her call. He finished his mission in Chan Chan in January. It was fun seeing him and talking with him about the mission, since almost everyone he knew while in the mission is almost done. We talked with the members, ate cake and cookies, and congratulated hermana Merly. That night we had pollo la brasa for dinner!
At church on Sunday hermano Jose came with hermana Andrea. We also saw hermana Isabel, hermana Mirian, and surprisingly hermana Mariana came! We quickly guided her to sit down next to the JAS. Hermana Andrea gave her talk on baptism, pulling from her own conversion story and the scriptures! She told us she would speak the minimum amount of time, (5 min), but she ended up speaking for 10! Wow, and she didn't even use notes. And not just that but it was a very good talk too. Every single one of our recent converts came and it was awesome seeing Jhonatan pass the sacrament. Elder Polo also got to see hermana Carmen, which was beautiful. After church we waited for lunch and then in the house did some reporting and prepared our next new missionary training. At 4:30 we went to the house of Noemi and she presented us to her twin sister, Esther! Esther also went to church a few times but never heard all of the missionary lessons because of time so she was never baptized. We're going to teach her and we hope that she'll be able to recognize the blessings that'll come from baptism. Hermano Jose also demonstrated his talent for baking and gave us some orange keke! We used the ward member list a little and then called some more people to clean PME. That night during the devotional we listed to the last tips of all the dying missionaries. We also watched a video of all the baptisms we had as a mission in this last transfer. We'll be receiving 25 new missionaries this transfer and opening up 9 new areas, so we'll see what happens. I really really really really really want to stay here and finish my mission in Chan Chan! I just want to die in peace! But President has me scared and I have the feeling I'm going to be transfered. Hopefully I won't be.
That's all for me! I hope you can keep our friends in your prayers! Have an absolutely fantastic week!
