Week 97: Steps of Faith
Hello hello everyone! I hope you're doing well!
On Tuesday we had a lesson with Carmen. I took a photo because I didn't know at that point if I was going to be transfered or not. We had a lesson with Mirian and Angel after that and hermana Karen came with us! We went over baptism and the restoration quickly and then taught them about the law of chastity. After that we visited the primary president, hermana Patricia, and her family. We presented ourselves and shared a quick message. We also asked them about Jeidy and what they thought would be best for her. Right now we're only having one call lesson with her each week, but we feel she would suddenly have more time if the sister missionaries taught her because she might feel a little uncomfortable with us teaching her because we're Elders. We also taught hermano James a bit more about the Book of Mormon to help him get his answer if the church is true. We set up a lesson with him in the chapel so we could feel the spirit more than simple just teaching him outside of his house, where's it's a little hard to do so. That night we taught hermano Jose about the rest of the restoration. He understood it well and feels it's true, but he wants to ask God for an answer as well. We were waiting for transfer new all night but then finally at 9:30 the APs told us that we'd be getting transfer news Wednesday afternoon. Man, we're not going to have any time to pack. I'm probably the reason, President must be wondering where to throw me my last transfer.
On Wednesday we studied like normal but with a bunch of anxiety for transfers. We were eventually told that they'd arrive in our emails at 4:30, so we did some calls and left to do some contacts. At 4:30 we got some email and I opened up mine first. I read it and it said that I'm staying in Chan Chan! "Voy a morir aquí" (I'm going to die here!) I shouted in front of everyone. That must've confused them. Elder Salas is also staying so he's going to kill me off! I was happy and we went off to work. It was hard to plan that morning because in the case that we had transfer we would've had to cancel everything and pack, so we we planned a little bit right then. That night we taught hermano Jose again and focused in on the fact that this is the true the church and isn't just another church that has a beautiful message. That's something that all members of the church and new converts need to understand. We learned that night that the only member of our district who got transfered was Elder Keller.
On Thursday we went to the hermana's area to pick up the keys to the chapel but when we got there the 1st counselor said that his wife had left suddenly so there was no one to give us the keys -_- We went pack after lunch to grab them. We did weekly planning while we waited to see the transfers, but they weren't being updated so we were a little disappointed. We knocked on a gray dot that afternoon and a lady answered and told us that the person didn't live there anymore, but she let us in and we shared a quick message about the restoration. Her name's Lilia and we got a return appointment. We then got a taxi to the chapel to have our lesson with James. Hermano Waldir came with us. We decided to go over the Restoration again with him and invite the spirit and call attention to it. We focused on the restoration portion and that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. Hermano Waldir shared his conversion story and how he came to know the truth of these things. We knelt in prayer and let the spirit guide and do his work. With that spirit we invited him to use faith instead of knowledge to be baptized on the 2nd of December, and responded with a firm, "sí"! The spirit was very strong and I have a good feeling about what's in store for him. We need to take steps of faith, even without seeing everything that's in front of us.
On Friday we had a lesson with hermano Alejandro about the Book of Mormon. Fter that we ran into hermana Esmelda Mejía in the street and she invited us in to talk about missionary work. We invited her to accompany us to our lesson with Mirian the next day. We visited hermana Evelyn, who's slowly recovering from her injury she had a few months ago. That night we had another lesson with hermano Jose. We taught him the law of chastity this time, amd it went well and felt very natural instead of awkward.
On Saturday we had a small meeting with our district leaders about our plans for the transfer. We had a lesson with Mirian and Angel, but unfortunately hermana Esmelda couldn't come. We went over the law of chastity again and the word of wisdom. We did a bunch of calls and sent messages after that because our other lessons canceled. Hermano Jose and hermana Andrea did go to the YSA activity, which was awesome! Hermano Jose has a talent for baking. We visited an elderly member named Isabel and she and her daughter talked to us for a loooong time about her grandson and other things. They were really sweet though. We then visited hermano Valentino and taught him about the Book of Mormon again.
On Sunday hermana Mirian came, but unfortunately hermano Angel didn't. Hermano Jose had insomnia, so he wasn't able to come. But we did see Walter and Elena, hermano James, Hermana Mariana and hermana Esther come! Our recent converts Andrea, Valentino, Jhonatan, Kiara, and Estefano all came. After church we spent some time talking with Marcelo and Marily and had our mission coordination meeting. Hermano Marcelo was pretty shocked when I said I've never had a girlfriend. After lunch we did all the technical stuff and planning we have to do as ZLs and then left to teach. We had a bunch of failed contacts but then we had a great lesson with hermana Esther about the restoration! She loved church and her twin sister Noemi will be a big support for her! I have good feelings that she'll progress well. That night we had the devotional as a mission and got to hear some of the testimonies of the new missionaries.
Today we played some card games in the chapel for pday!
That's my week! We have a lot of potential in these next few weeks, but I know trials will come. But more than that, I know the Lord's will will triumph!
