Week 73: Out to the Valley
Well this was a crazy week!
On Tuesday we had our normal lessons and went early to San Francisco to have a lesson with Jimmy. The power was off so we had our lesson by candlelight. Afterwards we had our last lesson with Elis. I didn't know if I was going to be transfered or not so I bore my testimony to her. I hope the message can get to her and that she'll have the faith she needs to be baptized. That night we got back and wanted for transfer new. We were talking with our district all night because some areas got their news at 9:30 but we didn't get anything. So for a while we and Bellavista thought there weren't going to be any transfers, but at 10 the APs sent us a message and both of us are being transfered. Hermana Kuhn also told us that her message said there were going to be hermanas in Huanchaco. So I guess there'll be hermanas in my apartment. A little weird to think about that. We weren't told where we're going or who we're going to be comps with until we arrive at the offices for transfers.
We spent a lot of Wednesday saying bye to people. Before that we actually tried looking for an apartment in Huanchaquito because the secretaries asked us to help them find one. There's pretty much nothing in Huanchaquito so we didn't find anything. We did end up walking to San Francisco from Huanchaquito by yhe back way which is something I didn't think I'd ever do. After that we had a final lesson with hermana Merly. We put her on date for the 24th, even though she's moving to Spain later this week. I hope the elderes there receive the information we sent. After that we said goodbye to Nina, which was very sad. She started to tear up. I promised to write yo her often and I promised that I'll help her see the Tabernacle Choir sing in person. Lastly we went to visit the Tanamachi family where we had a shall home evening. They're so fun and actually hermana Yessenia is going to be the pensionista for the Elders in Huanchaquito! Hermano Erick drove us home, and I'm glad he did because this is the first time we were able to have a deep conversation with him. He explained how he came to know the missionaries and how the gospel changed his life. I felt prompted to give them the promised that their goal of marriage, baptism, and sealing in the temple would be realized if they kept doing what they are doing and working with all their might towards that goal. Bryan came and said bye to us that night un the typical Bryan fashion by shooting us with a gun. He even gave me a letter to say bye.
On Thursday we woke up and finished packing, but I just realized I forgot my magnets! I'll have to ask for them. But we said bye to Ángela and Jair, which was particularly sad. Hermana Ángela gave us some chifle and snacks. I'll definitely be visiting them before I go home in December. After that we quickly said bye to hermano Junior, Gianmarco, and hermano Juan. After that we made it to the offices a little late. But it seems like Presidente was waiting for me because I was helping putting Elder Lopez' bags at the entrance when he left the shade where he was announcing transfers and came up to me with my companion. I wasn't expecting this, but I'm conps with my old ZL, Elder Cordova and our area is Independencia! It's an área in the valley, so this'll be my first time leaving Trujillo! Elder Larkin is also going to be in my zone. This'll be fun. I saw and talked with a bunch of my friends and also gave a bunch of tips to Hermana Alvarez, who's going to be in Huanchaco, and Elder Terry who's going to be in Huanchaquito. We loaded all the bags into the bus and started our journey. I was feeling a little sick so I just wanted to sleep, but I also wanted to look out the window. The bus ride was about 45 minutes and I saw the color green for the first time in 16 months! We then had to take a taxi to Casa Grande, which is where our area is. Wow all this traveling is confusing and us going to drain my travel funds. But ugh it is soooo hot here! I heard the valley was hot, but ugh that combined with my sickness was not fun.
We didn't have access to areabook yet since we were whitewashing the area and the apartment was kind of filthy so after lunch we did a deep cleaning. We needed to feel ready and have the spirit with us, so even though it took as all day on a proselyting day it was definitely necessary. We met the pensión and explored the chapel. It's another house chapel like in Huanchaco, but a bit bigger. It even has a lot of grass out front. Áreabook finally started working and to be honest there is not much here. There are a few green dos but we ended up dropping half of them. So well really be opening up the area practically. But this'll be fun and I know we're here for a reason. It definitely hasn't been easy here these last few days, (the people seem a little cold), but I'm looking forward to finding out what the Lord wants me to learn here. We're going to work to complete our missionary purpose, but if we work with all our might and still don't see anything, I know I'll still be doing what's right. I need to find out what the Lord wants me to learn.
We met some of the members and the 1st counselor in the stake presidency, Larry, is awesome. He helped show us around and we had a shall lesson with one of his friends, Euhenio. He's catholic and said he wanted to stay that way, (which is what a lot of people say here), but it felt good to testify of the Plan of Salvation. We also found a bunch of members who have left the church and want nothing to do with it now. We did have one lesson with a guy name Eduardo. He lives in the other ward in the city, but came to our ward for the day. His son has special needs and constantly made noises during the lesson, so It was kind of hard for me to understand. We're going to continue working and we know well find the elect this week! Also Elder Sanchez and Elder Larkin are both in the zone, so that's pretty exciting! It's also relatively clean and green here, so that's definitely a change up.
Todas we got into a bus and drove for 45 minutes to the mall to pullas money. Luckily we're still close enough to do that.
But I'm looking forward to seeing what the next few weeks have in store for us and whatever happens I know the Lord is watching over us. Have an absolutely fantastic week!
